| The Keenan
Orbital 12T consists of:
- a semi cylindrical body mounted on a box section chassis
-
PTO driven flywheel with 6 discharge paddles
-
Contra-rotating agitator on flywheel – driven
by ring gear
-
Hydraulically operated rear pusher door
-
Hydraulically operated front slurry door
-
Left
side discharge opening
-
Additional breaker tined at outlet
The flywheel rotates at 150rpm with 540rpm input. The material is contained
between the pusher door and the slurry door.
When spreading, the flywheel is brought up to speed, the slurry door is
raised and the pusher door feeds the material forward into the flywheel.
A hydraulic flow valve mounted at the front of the machine controls the
feed rate. This can be adjusted from 0 litres/min to 11 litres/min on
a scale of 0 – 12. See technical data below.
The output can be measured in 2 ways:
Deposition rate – This depends in the level of material
in the machine and the feed rate of the material to the flywheel.
Application rate – This depends on the deposition rate and the ground
area covered.
Valve setting Discharge time Deposition rate (m³/min)
* Deposition rate (tons/min) **
1 14min 11sec 0.70 0.84
2 7min 05sec 1.41 1.69
3 4min 43sec 2.12 2.54

* Based on a material load of 10 cubic meters
** Based on a material load of 10 cubic meters and density of 1.2 tons/m³
With a typical
spread width of 25m and a known tractor ground speed it is possible to
calculate the application rates at the machine settings above for a given
material density.
Example
Machine capacity
10m³
Material density 1.2 tons/m³
Valve setting 4
Ground speed 6.0 km/h (100m/min)
Spread width 25m
Material weight = 10m³ x 1.2 tonnes/m³
= 12000kgs
(12 tons)
Spread area
= spread width x (spread time x ground speed)
= 25m x
(3min 32sec x 100m/min)
= 25m x
353.3m
= 8833.3m²
= 2.182
acres
Application
rate = material weight/spread area
= 12 tons/2.182acres
= 5.49 tons/acre
