Fitting ring gear shroud to Keenan Orbital

1. With the spreader connected to the tractor run the hydraulic system until the side door and slurry door are fully open.

2. Disconnect the spreader from the tractor.

3. Remove the PTO shaft from the machine

4. Remove the upper and lower front guards.

5. Slacken the chain tensioner bolt and remove the drive chain.

6. Remove the ring gear inspection window from the front panel.

7. Working inside the spreader open the M16 spinner disk retaining bolt and plate washer.

8. Using a 2-leg bearing puller remove the spinner disk. Retain the key for re-assembly.

9. Remove the Flywheel center retaining bolt and plate washer. Note: This is an M20 left-hand thread bolt.

10. The flywheel is mounted on a 70mm-tapered shaft. It will be necessary to use the Keenan Flywheel Removal Tool (RFT) to separate the flywheel from the shaft.
i) Ensure that the flywheel is supported from a gantry or winch.
ii) Weld the FRT outer sleeve with 3 substantial stitch welds to the flywheel center boss.
iii) Insert the FRT shaft - shoulder side first - into the sleeve and align with the slot in the sleeve.
iv) Hammer the FRT tapered wedge into the slot in both the sleeve and shaft.
v) The pressure build up will separate the flywheel from the shaft.

11. Remove the flywheel completely from the shaft and leave it rest in the body of the machine. Retain the key for re-assembly.

12. Use the Ring Gear Top Shroud Positioning Tool (OS1210-100) to position the Shroud on top of the ring-gear. Weld the shroud in place with six 5mm fillet welds, 50mm long.

13. Before beginning re-assembly check and grease the Ring-gear and remove the FRT sleeve from the center boss of the flywheel.

14. Refit the flywheel onto its shaft in reverse order to dismantling. Turn flywheel by hand before fully tightening the retaining bolt to check the clearance between the shroud and flywheel.

15. Tighten the retaining bolt fully and refit the spinner disk assembly in reverse order to dismantling.

16. Refit the ring gear inspection window.

17. Refit the drive chain.

18. Adjust chain tensioner to give a maximum of 13mm inward movement in the center of the 2 sprockets (see operators manual).

19. Refit the upper and lower front guards.

20. Refit the PTO shaft.

21. Run machine and check that all parts are running smoothly.
